What’s all this then?
This is no ordinary self-catering stay. It’s a fully immersive, story-driven escape room experience—except instead of racing the clock in a locked room, you’ll have an entire charming Victorian cottage (and possibly a village…) to explore at your leisure. The cottage is in the beautiful village of Belton-in -Rutland, four miles west of Uppingham and six miles south of Oakham. We’re in the heart of the country, in England’s smallest, and possibly proudest, county of Rutland.
At the heart of it all is the delightfully eccentric Jannet Bambleforth—a sociable, brilliant antiquarian with a passion for curious objects, clever puzzles, and meaningful friendships. Rather than leaving her beloved cottage to family, she’s devised a far more entertaining plan…
The Challenge
Jannet has scattered her home with riddles, clues, hidden mechanisms, and ingenious contraptions. Solve them, and you’ll uncover the location of the house deeds—and a few surprises she’s tucked away for worthy minds.
No pressure… just your legacy at stake.

FAQs
Is it like a real escape room?
Yes… but also no. The puzzles are just as clever, but:
No frantic countdown
No being locked in
No cameras watching your every move
No need to dismantle the furniture like a raccoon in a panic
How long will the puzzles take?
Anywhere from 5–7 hours…
Or longer, if you enjoy dramatic overthinking
What if we get stuck?
Hints and solutions are available in paper form. Use them freely or stubbornly refuse—it’s your adventure
What if we can’t get in?
Don’t worry—the entry puzzle is gentle. And help is just a phone call away
Is the area worth exploring?
Absolutely. Nearby Uppingham is a charming market town with plenty to see and do. Rutland Water is on your doorstep.
If you still crave puzzles afterward… well, there are more waiting for you down the road at One Way Out in Oakham. 10% off for Cottage guests. Please ask.👀
Can we bring dogs?
I’m really sorry, but due to family allergies were going to have to say no to dogs.
